^^ That morning, I found myself in Germany, especially in the city of Cologne. I wanted to make the most of business trip for visiting this city. The day before, I was crossing Germany by train in order to join my final destination in the night. Fortunately, I found a room in a very cheap and nice hotel close to the station. My morning in Germany The next day was “The day”, my diary was full, and nevertheless I had some hours to visiting the town. It was in the beginning of January, the weather was cold and the ground slippery because of the black ice. That was a very funny morning during which I made some shopping down town. My good German surprise My fantastic journey in Germany ended in the beginning of the evening. I jumped in the car and crossed one more time this pleasant country by road.

I had very good surprise to see a TV in my hotel bedroom, so I could watch the news. In the morning, I was surprised to find a bus stop in the bottom of my hotel. There I could get a bus going to my final destination. Leaving Germany

Switzerland mountains!!! A week in Geneva

Nevertheless, I thank GOD for the last minute place found in a lodge of center Geneva. And I spent a very enjoyable journey in this cosmopolitan city. Thereby, I made the most of my trip by visiting unforgettable places like the Leman’s lake or the famous train station of Cormavin.

Here’s the story of my travel by car in Switzerland where I discovered amazing mountains and fascinating lakes. For example, a lake called “Léman” with its nice beaches and the jet. Traveling by car was tremendous opportunity to peruse the landscape during my trip. And when I got to the city it’s was a challenge to find a place in a hotel. It’s was then that I realized the need to book an hotel before my departure.

The magnificent sites of northern Tunisia, the wide rural landscapes and the extraordinary artistry achieved by the north African mosaicists are described on the previous pages but yet more awaits those who have time to explore Tunisia further.

Our onward journey south leaves the Mediterranean climate behind. One notices the olive trees spaced further and further apart as they compete for the scarce moisture, until we arrive in the strange white landscapes of the chotts - the area of great salt lakes which divides the country in two - and enter the fringes of the great Sahara desert.

On the way, we continue to follow the story of the Roman world into the realms of its military past, climbing the foothills of the Aures Mountains to seek out the only legionary fortress in the whole of this vast province at Haidra, and exploring the empty landscapes of the south in search of traces of the frontier zone.
We drive south into the sand-sea desert in order to experience the real Sahara and to stay at a remote (but very comfortable) camp site under the stars.
In the semi-desert regions of the south, fortified farmsteads (Ksour) were a feature of the landscape from Roman times right through until the recent past, their remarkable Berber architecture demonstrating the ingenuity of the local people in adapting to harsh living conditions.

Scotland is one of the most romantic places in the world and a great location to rekindle the flame of love, or even wed.

This is our very successful archaeological journey through the West of Scotland. We have invited archaeologists who are or have been researching or working along the Antonine Wall; in Argyll along the west coast; through the Highlands of Inverness and into Perth to come and give us their own introduction to their sites and areas. You will also be accompanied throughout by an archaeologist who will be able to weave the different threads of the story into that of Scotland.

We follow Scotland’s story through the prehistoric and early Pictish peoples, to the arrival of the Romans, discovering her early ambition to take all of Britain, and seeing the archaeological evidence of her failed attempt to do so. We have included a visit to the tiny island of Iona and the monastery founded by St Columba who brought Christianity to Scotland from Ireland.

We cover a lot of ground and there will be some long drives but this will be an adventurous archaeological journey through the glorious and dramatic landscapes of the Highlands and Islands. This challenging environment was the stimulus for all manner of ingenious responses by the early local population. ‘Crannogs’, dwellings built on small islands or on stilts in the lochs; ‘brochs’, fortified towers with walls so thick that people could walk around inside them and so high that they could do so on many storeys, and ‘duns’, smaller fortified tower/farmsteads.

Alastair Small has spent many years in excavation and fieldwork here, and has a close personal interest in the whole early history of this area. This is important because this journey does not concentrate on any one period, but seeks to bring you gradually to an understanding of the influences which have produced their unique character. His familiarity with Apulia means that he will be able to use everything you see as part of the story of the past here.

From the Iron Age Daunian warrior stelae of Manfredonia to Hannibal’s battle tactics at Cannae, Byzantine wall-paintings to the Baroque ‘architectural embroidery’ of Lecce, you will find this an intriguing and diverse holiday in a beautiful part of Italy. At other times it was part of the Hellenistic world, the Roman Empire or at the centre of Turkish Empires. Some were led here by the Silk Road and the Spice Route, whilst others came from the Mediterranean.

Our programme provides the framework for a journey through a massive sweep of time starting with the earliest Neolithic city in the Near East at Çatal Höyük, and follows the story through the superbly-sited Hittite capital city of Hattusas, to the capital of the Phrygian realm of King Midas at Gordion and Kerkenes Dağ, a remote and utterly spectacular forgotten mountain city, which has been excavated for many years by your Guide Lecturer.

We discover hidden early Christian churches and monasteries cut into the strange rock formations of eroded volcanic tuffs - a fairytale landscape. Isolated cells were carved out of the pinnacles by ascetic monks and entire settlements were created underground. The elegant monuments of pre- Ottoman Seljuk Turkey we see as we travel provide a final chapter to our story through the millennia.

This year we fly into Konya, saving one day-long journey and enabling us to begin the story with the earliest site.

I regularly go on the net and research golfing holidays and Mauritius looks good. There are interesting things there such as the capital, Port Louis, and formal gardens and a zoo with giant tortoises, so there are things for all the family, I've checked. Eve has come to terms with my golf obsession.

Because since the fall of its world-famous Wall, Berlin has busied itself with becoming one of the most stimulating creative and cultural centres in Europe. These days it’s a city of many faces, known equally as a hedonistic hub (parties here often go on for days rather than hours), a magnet for history buffs (the city was at the heart of much of the turbulent 20th century) and, increasingly, as a destination for families – thanks to a wealth of green spaces (see the sprawling Tiergarten), lots of indoor and outdoor playgrounds plus plenty of attractions to keep the little ones occupied.

And despite the cheap rents and bohemian reputation (the city’s unofficial motto is “Poor But Sexy”), there’s also a lot on offer for well-heeled and business travellers, from ritzy hotels and classy boutiques to Michelin-starred dining spots. A grand European all-rounder? And then some…
When to go?
Tales of Berlin’s notoriously long and harsh winters send shivers up the spines of visitors before they’ve even arrived – but don’t worry, they’re not that much worse than those in Britain. Still, the preferred time to visit is in the warmer months (April-September), when you can explore the city’s waterways and parks, as well as the numerous lakes (and sights) that lie within striking distance of the centre.
